OKC Zoo announces first holiday light event since 1992

Get into the festive spirit this holiday season at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden at their OKC Zoo Safari Lights display.This event will debut Nov. 6 and continue through Jan. 9. It will be the first holiday lights display at the zoo since 1992. The celebration will showcase larger-than-life light displays that will feature over 50 themed light sculptures of wildlife, aquatic animals, prehistoric creatures and more. All displays can be seen on the driving tour through the zoo, estimated at 20 minutes to 30 minutes. After the tour, guests can park and reenter the zoo to experience a walking tour of the entry plaza that will feature an original musical light performance designed by Miranda Family Lights, previously featured on “The Great Christmas Light Fight” broadcast on the ABC.Related video above: giraffe baby born at the Oklahoma City Zoo The children’s zoo will contain interactive light displays where guests can enjoy seasonal treats available for purchase or shop unique toys and gifts in the Zoo’s gift shops. The experience will also include the Dino Safari with animatronic life-size dinosaurs. “It’s thrilling to bring a light event back to the Zoo after almost three decades and we cannot wait to share OKC ZOO SAFARI LIGHTS with new generations of fans,” OKC Zoo executive director and CEO Dwight Lawson said in a statement. “This event offers an exciting way to experience the unique setting of the park with stunning lights, music and lots of surprises while creating holiday memories and traditions.”Every Thursday through Sunday from Nov. 6 through Dec. 25, photos can be taken with Santa in the zoo’s Canopy restaurant.Online reservations will be required for the OKC Zoo Safari Lights. Drive-up purchases will not be accepted. Tickets are limited to provide an optimal guest experience, zoo staff said.The drive-thru experience is $50 per vehicle for “ZOOfriends” members or $60 per vehicle for non-members. This fee includes up to four walk-thru admission tickets.For oversized vehicles of 9 to 15 people, admission is $80 per vehicle for “ZOOfriends” members or $90 per vehicle for non-members. This includes up to six walk-thru admission tickets.Admission for walk-thru only is $10 per guests ages 3 and older for “ZOOfriends” members or $12 per guests ages 3 and older for non-members. This event is open Nov. 6 and 7 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. each night.
