Sadie Adler
Charles can sometimes fade into the background, but Sadie is always there and a figure that most people remember. Unfortunately, players don’t get to spend as much time as they’d like with Sadie because she and Arthur don’t talk to each other much and don’t say as much about her past as fans would like to know.
Jake and Sadie used to live together, but the O’Driscoll Boys stole from them and killed Jake. When she first meets the gang, things get pretty heated (her house burns down), but Sadie finally goes back to camp with them and joins the gang, promising to get back at the O’Dricscolls.
Charles Smith
He is an important character in the game for diehard fans, but casual players don’t even notice him. Charles is a member of the gang, but he didn’t join until a few months before the events that start the game. Charles was half African and half Native American, so he had to watch the US Army kill his family and learn to live on his own.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, Charles is in many different stories. In some of them, he is just another member of the Van der Linde gang, but in others, he plays a very important role and gets close to Arthur. The game makes it sound like he might have had a happy finish, which is a relief, but it would be nice to see more of Charles and do more things with him.
Reverend Swanson
He might have been a pastor and still be called that, but he stopped being a minister before the events that start Red Dead Redemption 2. Swanson is a very interesting person. He left his old life because he couldn’t avoid the pleasures of sex and alcohol, which caused him to lose his faith and his family.
Swanson’s character arc in the game is pretty big, since he starts out as a drunk and drug addict but slowly stops drinking and tries to change his life. It’s too bad that the player doesn’t get to talk to him much and learn more about his trip.
Javier Escuella
Javier is one of the first people the player works with on a task, and they meet him very early in Funny Shooter 2. The most interesting thing about Javier is his past, especially since he keeps showing up in the Red Dead games. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Javier is in 6 chapters and the conclusion. He is a pretty important character in most of those chapters.
He always seems to be around when someone in the gang needs help, and he takes part in many rescue tasks as well as the gang’s illegal activities. Even though he is friendly with Arthur (and the player has some options to make their relationship even better), their friendship starts to fade because Javier is very loyal to Dutch, even when Arthur questions him.
John Marston
John is also a recurring character in the Red Dead series. In Red Dead Redemption, he is one of the main characters, but in Red Dead Redemption 2. He doesn’t play as big of a part as he should. He shows up in a lot of chapters and talks to Arthur a lot. But his place in the gang is… well, let’s just say it’s not very important.
Marston seems careless, and the Colter Chapter is spent with him healing from his wounds. In the other chapters, though, he keeps doing the same things. He doesn’t really turn into the man he’s supposed to be until the end. And he makes most of his choices based on what Arthur tells him to do.
Uncle
Almost every family has a strange uncle, and Red Dead Redemption 2‘s family is no different. Uncle’s life before he joined the Van der Linde gang is shrouded in mystery, and not much is known about it. He said that people in Congo treated him like a god, but no one seems to believe him.
Because Uncle is a drinker and doesn’t really want to do muc. His role in the gang is mostly as “the fool” of the party. Other people seem to enjoy his crazy stories and make fun of him for doing almost nothing.
Lenny Summers
Lenny’s parents were both slaves, which made him angry, strong, and always on the run from a very young age. He’s also in a lot of stories, and as a gang member, he seems loyal, fun. And willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even if it’s not always the best idea.
Unfortunately, Lenny dies during the bank robbery in Saint-Denis. This is a bad finish for a character that the players feel like they were just getting to know better.
