They are also featured in all sorts of media, from stories and movies about princesses and dragons to the haunted abodes of vampires. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your castle, this guide is for you!

This step-by-step guide to drawing a castle will make it easy to design a fantastic castle.

How to Draw A Castle

Step 1

You’ll need a few tools for this guide to draw a castle. This includes a ruler, a light-colored pencil, and your favorite drawing tool, a dark-colored pen or pencil.

In this first step, we use a ruler and a highlighter to draw some basic shapes we will need later.

Start with a large horizontal rectangle in the center using the reference image. This allows you to draw a thin rectangle that is slightly higher on both sides than the middle one. Finally, draw two more rectangles over the first and scale them down.

It may sound not very easy, but it becomes much more straightforward once you see the reference image!

Step 2

In this part of your castle design, we will add some towers to your keep. For this step, we recommend using a pencil for the time being.

To draw these towers, use a pencil and ruler to draw a triangular shape over the top two rectangles and the top middle.

Next, carefully erase the tips of the triangles and draw a rounded tip in its place. Once you’ve drawn those towers, it’s time to move on to the next step!

Step 3

In this step of our guide to drawing a castle, we will add some windows to the mix.

These windows have quite a distinctive design as they are flat at the bottom, relatively high, and rounded at the top.

You can change the position of these windows by adding more or removing some. However, if you want your castle to be symmetrical, keep the number of windows on each side of the castle the same.

Step 4

We’ll start by reviewing the pencil lines in this part of your lock design with a pen. First, draw a line at the bottom of the lock to form the floor.

You can then carefully trace any pencil line with the pen. However, let’s add a pattern in the top row for the middle rectangle.

As you can see in the image, at the top of this rectangle is a square, almost zigzag line you can create with your ruler.

It’s confusing and complicated, but take your time, and you’ll do a great job! Then add as many more rows as you like before continuing to step five.

Step 5

This step of our guide on drawing a castle will require some patience, but it will be worth it!

We’re going to draw some brick patterns on the walls of your castle. This is another step where your ruler will be your best friend.

First, draw vertical lines along the castle walls, ensuring they are as close together as possible.

You don’t need to keep the spacing between them all together, even as this will help give your lock a handcrafted look.

Finally, add many small vertical lines between the horizontal ones to create the brick patterns.

You can then complete your castle drawing with some final details on the towers and castle door and draw some greenery on the sides.

What other details can you think of that you would like for your castle? Something like a moat or even a dragon flying around would be great!

Step 6

Now that you’ve worked hard on designing your castle and carefully drawn the final details, relax with some nice colors at this step.

We used a darker, more muted combination of browns and blues for our castle, but while that’s an option for you, feel free to get creative with your color choices!

Choosing colors is only part of it, as you can experiment with some great artistic mediums to bring your drawing to life.
